A Midwife is a pers0n who,having been regulary admitted to a midfery educational program fully rec0cnized in the c0untry in which it's l0cated,has succesfully completed the prescribed c0urse of studies i her own resp0nsibility and to care for the newb0rn and the infant.This care includes preventive measn midwifery and has acquired the requiste qualification to be registered and or legally licensed to practice midwifery.

She must be able to give the necessary supervision,care and advice to women during pregnancy,lab0r and postpartum,to c0nduct deliveries onure,the detection of abnormal condition in m0theR and cHild.The procurement of medical assitance and the execution of emergency measure in the absence of medical help.

She has an important task in c0unselling and education,n0t only for patients,but also within the family and c0mmunitY.Their w0rk sh0uld involve antenatal education and preparation for parenthood and extends to certain areas of gyneColoGy,family planNing and child care.She may practice in h0spitals,clinics,health units,domiciliary c0ndiTions or any otHer serVice (IBI)
